Allowance is a prototype designed to keep kids safe and encourage good driving habits. The hardware uses Automatic's real-time API and is able to track and send notifications through the app to parents when there is data of unsafe driving occuring. The app converts these unsafe driving habits — hard braking, speeding, arriving home past curfew — into deductions from the teen’s allowance.

The project partnered with Pennzoil and ISL to implement the connected hardware, develop the app and collect the necessary data points as well as the design of the interface and packaging. Using Automatic’s real-time events API and REST API, we were able to track trip start, trip finish, unsafe accelerations, speeding, engine light diagnostics, and sudden braking.
